On a different thread it was brought up whether UL and LSU are rivals-----I guess since LSU dropped out of the top 25 in softball I am now confused ---Is LSU worthy of actually being called a rival with the Cajuns---Don't you just love when you can throw this crap back at these people----If LSU and the other schools would just leave us alone---Just think what we could do----This should be an inspiration for all students, faculty, administration, and the entire Cajun World to rally around our great university-----Where Young minds reach unexpected levels of excellence in all university endeavors!!!! ---Hey maybe a slogan for our place!!!!!
But Boomer...they are not a softball school. I know this because its all I hear when we beat them....in their own house...in the postseason. We beat them in Baseball...midweek game...you guys tried harder the we did....try that in football. LSU has a bad year in Basketball...we are just not a basketball school....football is more important...when does baseball season start, cause thats what really matters. Excuses, excuses, excuses. When your supported whole heartedly by the state of Louisiana, you make as much money annually as they do, and you have dried up all competition in the state, there are no excuses anymore. But, god save them, they throw them out there. So what happens this year when their football team misses out on another BCS Bowl and SEC Title? What will their excuse be? Let's have fun and start the guessing game.
My money is on Jordan Jefferson, Steve Kragthorpe, or losing Patrick "sub 10 on the wonderlic" Peterson. Thoughts?
People keep changing the definition of the word "rival".
A rival is someone you constantly compete with. It has nothing to do with wins or losses. Most of the time...it has nothing to do with sports.
Breaux Bridge and Teurlings are rivals. BB has owned the rivalry for the most part, but they are still rivals. Why? Because so many kids that go to TCH are from Breaux Bridge and are friends with people who go to BB.
Think about the Yale/Harvard and the Army/Navy rivalries. Do these have to do with wins and losses?
Sports has nothing to do with our rivalries with LSU, McNeese, and LaTech. They are the place where bragging rights are established and the most visual head to head competition is fought, but they aren't the soul reason for the rivalry.
The Yankees owned the Redsox for an entire century. It did not deter the rivalry.
Rivalries are bigger than wins and losses.
Familiarity breeds contempt.
Contempt breeds rivalries.
You have to play someone year in and year out for it to be a rival, therefore they are not a rival of ours. Softball doesn't even play them unless it's postseason. Baseball plays them only 1 time a year. And I don't think playing once every 5 years in basketball and football really is considered a rival. Now I'm not sure about golf, tennis and rugby. But I doubt it as well

so what your saying is Crawfish>Corndogs
I have a serious question. Is ULM our rival? cause I have heard many people on here say in the past that the sun belt is trying to push this ULM and UL rivalry and that we are not really rivals. If that is the case, then there is no way we are rivals with LSU.
Edit:
Also if a school (not talking about the fans in particular but the school itself) does not respect us enough to come play us in Lafayette, in really anything, then how could we be rivals?
I agree with this. I think there are certainly games that have a "rivalry" feel to them because of outside circumstances leading up to the game. Certainly UL/LSU games have this feeling, regardless of the sport, mainly due to the close proximity of the schools to one another - making them very well attended - and other obvious issues between the fanbases. I would argue that a true rivalry is found in a team's conference. I know there are certain exceptions but, for the most part, conference foes are played every year and usually have a larger role in deciding a team's fate.
