And, if we get into football and baseball being the 2 sports, that is done all the time. A&M has done it recently, and there was a run of Stanford QBs that were also standout baseball players. John Elway, Chad Hutchinson are two that come to mind, and I know there were others. There is a ton of guys who have done that combo.
The other thing is just because a recruit thinks he is a super athlete does not mean he fits the schemes of the two coaches at the school. Yes Baseball and football are two sports to play you can throw in track. I doubt seriously Coach Marlin would tell Andrews if you want to play football (he was a first team all state QB/FS and Athlete) then we will be ok with it. Not gonna happen. Now he might and I doubt this take a Football player in December but he would catch it playing for Marlin the way I know he works his players to get them ready for games. It is just two different world compared to high school. The demand of the sport along with the demands of the class and the new NCAA academic requirements change the reality. Back when Ward did it an athlete did not have the academic requirements either. It was just play.
He is more than welcome to try just saying the reality of it is it is very doubtful it will happen in football/basketball. I do not believe they would committ to him that it will happen.
I misunderstood you (you didn't have sufficient emoticons to get the full meaning
), but no coach is going to allow his contributing player to "leave early". If a postseason situation were on the line, such as football... that might interrupt the start of the basketball season for an athlete, the basketball team would just have to wait. If an athlete actually qualified for consideration (basketball/football)... things would be worked out.
