Thread: Lady Cajuns Come of Age

  1. UL Basketball Lady Cajuns Come of Age

Build it and they will come.

Years after receiving minimal fan support, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team officially became a program this season.

Not because the Cajuns secured only the third winning season in school history, or because they posted the second 20-win season in school history or because they won the school's first Sun Belt Western Division Championship.

But moreso because now they have a fan base.

Back on Jan. 11, I challenged Cajun supporters to stop making excuses for why they weren't attending games and instead get behind this team.

And this past week they did just that.

During the biggest week in the program's history, in which the Cajuns were set to try and clinch at least a share of the West Division title, the fans showed up in support of the team and exemplified what being a true Louisiana Ragin' Cajun fan really means.

Nice article from Mr. Narcisse, but I have one point of contention. The reason for the season is the team, not the fans. The ladies and Coach Hall & his staff worked their butts off to achieve what they have so far this year. The fans have been treated to an outstanding season and helped contribute to the atmosphere which makes this team tough (impossible this year!) to beat at home. I am very happy to see the university finally take athletics in general, and women's athletics in particular, more seriously. It's about time!

So very true, I cant take credit for this. This is all on the girls, they deserve all of the credit in the world! It is awesome though to see that the Cajun Nation is alive and kicking. My freshman year in '99 Cajun support was nothing like what it is now and it makes it that much more fun to go to the games. Fans do deserve a pat on the back for being so awesome this past year, but in the case of the women, it is all on them!! Good job ladies!!!
