Thread: Spring Practice Question

    UL Football Spring Practice Question

spring practice starts tomorrow, just wondered what you guys think is our teams strongest position in terms of talent, depth and experience and what is the weakest. For the purpose of this discussion (since they are not members of the team yet) please do not count the players we signed this month that are not here.

My vote for strongest position goes to our O-line. We return 4 out of 5 starters from last season (Cox, Hodges, Newman, Ernest), we have young depth (Leger, Chance, Fails, Gillis) the only concern is at center where we have Cutler and the newcomer Bryant. A close second for strongest position goes to the Running Backs.

My vote for weakest position goes to Quarterback. Right now if we played a game today and Babb got hurt we would have a RS-Freshman (Desormeaux) and whodat???? a close second for weakest position goes to the Tight Ends.

I think you got it close except quarterback starts out as a strength I can't think about injuries.

I have to agree with you SwampHound. At the end of last season...I stated the our O-line would be our strength this year!

I have to agree also that the o-line is the strongest postion on the team. The weakest postion goes to the D-Tackles who just can't get job done. Second goes to the kickoff coverage which was just awful a season ago.

    Swamp,
I think we have good depth on the offensive line which could open uo holes for the stable of backs we have. I think we will have to take a wait and see approach with our defensive line. I'll give you a hollar so we can go watch a scrimmage.

O-line is no doubt our strenght, but QB could go both ways. the chance that babb's history of injury might prevail this season is always looming over our heads. Nonetheless,I would like to see desameux get some playing time early with babb starting, of course, just in case something bad does happen. i've seen desameaux practice and i'm not worried. he could step up if need be. he is a rs-freshman, but he is our future.

Swamp...Could you give us a break down on how are LB's are looking?

I've heard some noise about position changes. Any body know of any? I read in the advertiser that Kingsby and Fenton were switching spots and that Risher was moving inside to middle linebacker. What do you guys think? I am really hoping Burkhalter gets a chance to show what he's got b/c I thin he can be a 3-4 year starter.

Risher has been moved to mike, Green came in at about 207. Kingsby is at cb & Fenton goes to safety. Right now, Hadnot has the best chance of getting more playing time over Burkhalter & Vance according to info I've got.

I talked to Greg Hodges dad on Sunday and he told me that Greg was moving to Center. (of course that could change prior to opening day)

I thought that may happen, I have seen Greg practice at center either last season or the season before (maybe both) but not sure if he has ever played there during a game. Maybe rwcajun could add some insight

Greg spelled Ronnie for a short time during the La. Tech. game last year. That is the only time. He has practiced there off and on for the last few years. He always went out early with the centers during pre game warm ups last year. I watched at him Monday's practice with pads and he snapped both under center and shot gun. I will keep an eye on him this weekend as well, and let you know how many go over the QB's head or how many he rolls back. Nothing is in stone yet.

    Burkhalter, Brenton 6-0 230
    Hadnot, Joseph 5-10 195
    Green, Tre' 6-0 215
    Vance, Jonathan 6-3 210

Am I the only one who thinks a 5'10", 195 lb. middle linebacker is a great idea!!! Check your source of info geauxboy!!!!
