By the way, the version I turned in did not include the word "Lafayette" anywhere. They edited it in.

Nice article Chris I picked up the paper and read that article. I thought it was great overall, not just for a first time article.Originally posted by BabbForHeisman
Anybody see the Vermilion today? Not bad for my first article.

Great article Chris! There is a Louisiana without the "Lafayette" in the article. Perhaps that one "slipped" by.Originally posted by BabbForHeisman

My app goes in tomorrow...
awesome photos too!
I talked to the editor on Friday, and he couldn't really come up with a good reason, other than "that's the way it was done before me." So I made a few arguments based on the fact that common usage is heading in the direction of "UL" and "Louisiana". He seemed to understand what I was saying and said he would think about it.Originally posted by lxa656
That is b.s. about the lafayette, you need to set them straight! And if you dont mind, find out from your editor the real reason why they use lafayette, I would love to know! good job!
So, not that I would tell anyone to do this, but if anyone feels like it, they could certainly call the vermilion office or write a letter to the editor saying that you noticed outdated and clumsy-sounding references to the university in the paper and that you wish it would change. That might help to change his mind. But don't mention that you know me. I'm the new guy.
I'm with you at all cost we need to get away from marketing the University as UL-Lafayette.
At least your "edited" article almost avoids UL Lafayette.
Here is a temporary idea, show the editor how usage of "Louisiana Lafayette" is illegal.

I lost track of the other thread on this subject.
Just to let you know that with the answers to my questions, I now see and understand where you are coming from
Freedom of the press is one thing, intent to deceive or misrepresent facts to the detriment of the athletic program is a serious problem. Keep roasting them. Keep pointing out their deficiencies. Sooner or later it will have an impact.Originally posted by studentfan
They can print what they want, doesn't mean I have to even read it or believe what I read.
I wrote an email the other day to the address that was on the website. I went on with polite words asking to describe to me why they use Lafayette and asked if they could assist in helping us move out of that hole. I havent gotten a reply or anything, but I hope that helps. Keep us up to date with what this editor person says.
Looks like a small amount of progress may be happening. Thanks in part to a few phone calls and one very well worded letter to the editor, the "Lafayette" editing seems to have gotten better.
It still exists, be they missed a lot more references to "Louisiana" than they usually do.
Hopefully one day the word Lafayette will disappear from the name all together.
