Tony Robichaux has 600 wins in his collegiate head coaching career, but his University of Louisiana baseball squad hasn't won seven straight games to open a season since he became the Cajuns' mentor in 1995.

The Cajuns have a chance to take care of that oversight tonight when they welcome Nicholls State for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Moore Field.

The UL squad rides a 6-0 record into tonight's contest against the Colonels, having swept three straight games in its own UL Invitational tournament over the weekend. The Cajuns took wins over Southern (11-7) and St. John's (7-2) before taking a 4-0 shutout win over Northwestern State on Sunday.

That victory gave Robichaux his 600th victory, making him the 48th active NCAA Division I coach to hit that milestone and one of the youngest to reach that mark.

"The credit for that goes to every one of the assistant coaches we've had, both here and at McNeese, all the staff members and the players that got out there between the lines," Robichaux said Sunday. "I didn't win any of those games."

It may not be by coincidence that Robichaux's milestone win came on a pitching gem, since his mound staffs have annually ranked among the best in the Sun Belt Conference if not nationally. Senior lefthander Austin Faught allowed two hits in eight innings against the Demons as UL recorded the 37th shutout in Robichaux's 11 seasons.
