Extra innings costly in game two as women earn split on the day as UL beats Purdue, but then suffers first loss of season to Nicholls State.
Brooke Mitchell made it hard on the Purdue Boilermakers and Lacey Bertucci provided the difference at the plate Saturday as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns posted a 3-1 victory on the second day of the Louisiana Classics.
Mitchell struck out 14 Purdue batters, allowing one hit and one unearned run.
Bertucci blasted a Brooke Baker pitch for a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, a powerful line drive to left center field that left Ragin' Cajun Softball Park in a hurry.
But the Cajuns' 11-game winning streak was halted in the next contest, as Nicholls State scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 1-0 upset.
UL left another nine runners stranded in the defeat, reflecting a hit-and-miss weekend on offense. But Bertucci had no trouble providing the winning production against Purdue.
