The North Texas Mean Green were able to salvage the final game of a three game series from the 17th ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns with an 8-5 win on Sunday at Lovelace Stadium.

Shelbee Rodgers (6-1) suffered her first loss of the season, giving up six runs one seven hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Allie Chenault came on in relief, giving up two runs on three hits in 2.2 innings pitched.

North Texas outhit the Cajuns 10-5 on the day, with five different Cajuns (20-3, 2-1) recording one hit apiece.

For the second time in as many games, North Texas (12-10, 1-2) would get on the board first, this time with a single run in the third inning thanks to a solo home run from Mallory Cantler.

UL would get the run, plus three more, back in the fourth inning. Erikka Murphy led off the inning with a walk then moved to third base on a right field single by Christi Orgeron. Murphy would score on a Gabriele Bridges RBI single to tie things up at 1-1.

After a sacrifice bunt moved both Bridges and Orgeron into scoring position, Sarah Draheim, playing just down the road from her hometown of Flower Mound, Texas, delivered a three-run home run to right field, giving the Cajuns a 4-1 lead. The go-ahead bomb was the third home run of the season for the sophomore catcher.

North Texas responded with five runs in their half of the fourth inning. Mariza Martinez led off the inning with a solo home run to make the score 4-2. The next two batters reached on an error and a single, with one scoring on an RBI single by Brooke Foster.

With the score at 4-3, Cantler hit her second home run of the game, this one a three-run homer that gave North Texas a 6-4 lead. The five-run fourth inning, chased Rodgers after 3.1 innings pitched.

Cheanult, who came in to relieve Rodgers, threw 1.2 scoreless innings to get the Cajuns into the top of the sixth inning still trailing by two runs.

In the sixth, the Cajuns would get one of those runs back to close the gap to one run at 6-5. Bridges was hit by a pitch with one out to get things started. With Megan Waterman running for Bridges, a single off of Megan Granger's bat advanced the pinch runner to second base.

Waterman would then score on a Paige Cormier RBI single, making the score 6-5.

North Texas would get the run back in the bottom half of the inning when they scored two runs to take an 8-5 lead. The Mean Green used a single, double, RBI bunt and a double steal to plate the two runs.

Brittany Simmons (6-6) retired the Cajuns in order in the seventh to record her second complete game of the series. The win was the first for North Texas over Louisiana in 17 tries in Denton.

The Cajuns return home after 13 straight on the road when they host McNeese State in a single game at Lamson Park on Tuesday. The Cajuns and Cowgirls are set for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
