Thread: Swan Song for Mr. BIG ?

  1. UL Basketball Swan Song for Mr. BIG ?

Cameron plays key role in possible final season for UL

Chris Cameron is under no delusions.

He knows when his college basketball career is finished, he won't be deluged with offers from the Sydney opera house back home in Australia.

Each time Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns serenade their fans with the school's fight song after home wins in the Cajundome, Cameron gives it his best shot, but leaves it to teammates to really carry the tune.

"I think I'm tone deaf," Cameron said with a wry smile before Wednesday's practice. "I think I need the Vienna Boys Choir to back me up."

Still, the Cajuns are getting better with their singing, and doing so strengthens the bond they feel with their backers.

"A lot of people have come up to me on campus and say they think it's great that we sing to the fans," Cameron said. "It's awesome. A little thing like that means the world to some people, and if we can do that for them to show our appreciation then that's great."

Cameron and the Cajuns finish up the home portion of their schedule by hosting New Mexico State tonight and North Texas on Saturday, and the Cajundome is likely to be a noisy place.

"The home crowd makes a big difference," Cameron said. "At the start of a big run, or if we need a stop, they're definitely the sixth man. It rattles our opponent, and you just want to make them yell louder.

"I think our record proves that we have an advantage in the Cajundome. The more fans we get, the more games we're going to win. It sends chills down your spine sometimes. It's awesome."

Saturday's spotlight will be on seniors like Cameron, Orien Greene and Brian Hamilton, but Cameron remains uncertain whether it will be his swan song.

There is not a better feeling for a college player to be told by students on campus that they are proud of you and the team.

If he does decide to return next year and we can get a power player to take over his role underneath I believe he could be an even bigger weapon next year than he was this season. With his jump shot if we can get him outside more it could mean great things for him.

We should have signs all over the dome Saturday night.

    "Stay Chris Stay"

    or

"Chris, If You Stay, We'll Name A Louisiana Parish After You!"

(he my not know that one already exists)

I hope Chris stays! And I love the new tradition of singing the fight song after each game with the team, I get goosebumps everytime! And maybe students will actually learn the fight song... I am so glad they finally put the words up on the screen! Come on Cajuns lets get really into it... FEEL THE RAGE!!

That is a good one bug, havent stopped laughing since I read it!

Anyway, I know this is hoop dreams, no pun intended, but imagine if the Aussie stayed and the General controls Southall and Williams! Mitchell gets his eligibility back, which is looking good because if you notice in the article it made no mention of him being honored in Saturdays game! Wade is of course only a junior. You still have Ford battling for a starting spot and the transfer guy from long beach(which I still no nothing about, just heresay). WOW! I am being very optimistic here, but as a fan I can do that. The General's program would be in good shape and there certainly wouldnt be a drop off year!

With the general at the helm I am not worried about the program at all. Under Evans I always had a feeling like this won't be able to last much longer but with Lee I cannot help but feel optimistic abotu our program. Lee is actually recruiting and getting players for the future of the program and i honestly know of any players that Evans brought in other than transfers that have had an impact.

lxa656, that line up would be very good with the guys you mentioned. Lets all get out to these last two home games and show our Aussie that we want him back for 1 more year.

Maybe you can get the 4000 other fans who leave the game early instead of sticking around. It's sad to see all the other "fans" leave with 2 minutes left to "beat the traffic."
