The Atlantic Coast Conference will use instant replay at its football games next season, becoming the second conference to do so, following the Big Ten.. ACC commissioner John Swofford, who visited Boston College yesterday, said the decision has no downside.
"I think it helps everyone," said Swofford. "The coaches will like it, and the officials will like it because it takes more of the uncertainty out of the calls. The idea is to get the call right. And this will help tremendously in achieving that."
The NCAA football rules committee voted last week to give conferences the opportunity to use instant replay on an experimental basis for the 2005 season.
The reaction to the Big Ten's decision to use instant replay was mostly positive, which helped persuade the ACC to try it as well.
