The University of Louisiana's baseball team has proven it can win at home. Finding success on the road is a different matter.
The Ragin' Cajuns, despite a glittering 25-6 home-field record, were only 6-15 away from Moore Field last season. They'll hope to begin reversing that trend today when they journey to Huntsville, Texas, to face Sam Houston State's Bearkats in a 1:30 p.m. contest at SHSU's Holleman Field.
The Cajuns rolled to three easy home wins in their opening weekend, downing Louisiana Tech 10-0, 9-3 and 10-5 to start out 3-0 for the first time since 2001. UL got solid pitching performances in each game and also had double-figure hits in all three, and enters today's game with a .337 team batting average and a 2.33 team ERA.
Now they'll take that act on the road against a Bearkat squad that is 2-2 after taking two of three games from Creighton over the weekend and dropping a 2-1 decision to Texas A&M Tuesday, all four at home.
SHSU plays its first nine games at home, while the road outing is one of only two non-tournament road games UL will play before the start of Sun Belt Conference play.
"We're a much more veteran team than we were last year," said Cajun head coach Tony Robichaux. "It's easier for seniors to handle what you run into on the road."
