That is where the criticism of Bustle not wearing headsets comes in. We were not winning. He didn't have the headsets on. He was not taking advantage of all available opportunities to put his team in a winning position. His system doesn't work.

When a team is winning, the old addage applies: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The same goes for a coach with a stellar track record. Such a coach is given a pass from the harsh criticism mentioned above (al least for some time). He won without the headsets. He is winning without the headsets. His system works.

All that being said, maybe Bustle was a victim of circumstances (lack of funding, NCAA santions for t-sirts, etc.) and we are just beginning to see his true abilities with better resources in place and coming into place (indoor practice facility, turf on field, stadium renevations, etc.). Many would disagree with that though.

I hope that Bustle succeeds. _

The fact is, he isn't winning or at least at any consistent level. He has excelled at being consistently inconsistent. We beat Houston on the road and then get bombed my Middle Tennessee the next week. We have a great first half against Ohio and then drop a bomb and then get bombed by McNeese at home in front of one of our largest crowds ever.

With all due respect Jay, He aint Bowden or Paterno. Those guys have earned their respectability through their tenure but they've both had excellent coordinators. Bustle is supposed to be the offensive guru but he doesn't seem to have any contributions during the game to adjustments and personnel changes.

Jay, you'd know better than any of us due to your conversations with him, but he said last year that he wanted a more balanced attack along with the use of the deep ball a bit more to spread the field. After we didn't do that this year, he mentioned that he wished we had been a bit more balanced when he hired Munoz. He's got direct control of this and had opportunities to do this throughout the year.

Now, I don't necessarily dislike coach Bustle either. I think the program has taken big positive steps since Mr. Lawsuit. I think the quality of player and student athlete brought into the program is better and heading in the right direction. Maybe he's just not a fiery type of coach which I'd like to see but I hope he succeeds and we are complaining in a couple of years when a bigger school is after him.

Anybody else know about Hudson's philosophies or have any comments?

I think we all want him to succeed. That would mean we are not starting all over again.............waiting 2 or 3 more seasons to see if the new guy is successful. Definitely in the program's best interest if he does.

.. ron called the deep ball..

When I heard coach Ron commit to the deep pass on the 1st play, I was suprised.

When it actually happened, I went into shock.

The doubter in me still thinks a 'Gust of' wind got under the ball.

Tell you what though, I think it takes 5 or 6 of those a game to really soften up a defense.

  9. UL Football UL's Ron Hudson a Finalist for OL Coach of the Year

Ron Hudson's offensive line has paved the way for the No. 3 rushing attack in the nation

Muscle Milk® and FootballScoop.com today announced a partnership creating a new “Coaches of the Year” award for 14 different position coaches in College Football. “The FootballScoop set of awards is unique from other “Coach of the Year” awards in that there is no other outlet that focuses on Position coaches and coordinators; whereas nearly every other “Coach of the Year” award is solely for a Head Coach”, said Scott Roussel, President of FootballScoop.

“We’re excited to team with FootballScoop and support this award recognizing these coaches for all the hard work they put in throughout the year”, said Chris Kildow, director of Sports Marketing for Muscle Milk (CytoSport, Inc). “We provide nutritional product support for over 125 College Football programs nationally so this award is a natural fit for us.”

Finalists have been chosen for the 14 awards from the following areas: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Quarterbacks Coach, Running Backs Coach, Wide Receivers Coach, Offensive Line Coach, Defensive Line Coach, Linebackers Coach, Secondary Coach, Division 1-AA Coordinator, Division 2 Coordinator and Division 3 Coordinator of the Year.

Cajuns Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Ron Hudson was one of four finalists for Offensive Line Coach of the Year. Since Hudson’s arrival, the Cajuns running game has been ranked nationally in the top 10 percent of all NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The Cajuns ranked 7th in the nation in rushing in 2005, 11th in 2006 and 7th in 2007. This season, the Cajuns set the school single-game rushing record at ULM with 556 yards on 37 carries (15.0ypc). UL has 2,837 rushing yards (283.7ypg) – only 182 yards from the school record of 3,019. UL is currently third in the nation in rushing.

To read about the finalists, and to vote, please visit http://www.footballscoop.com

Voting will take place through Friday December 5th. Winners will be announced beginning on December 7th.

A panel of former coaches and players who will evaluate the finalists will select winners.

Votes will be considered; however the Panel has final decision over the awards.
