My wife and I occupy seats right behind Frenchie and Bob Fournet. Bob Fournet was a passionate supporter of UL athletics. There have been a lot of humerous instances at football games, especially so when he and Frenchie debated the pros and cons of particular plays and play calling. He will be missed, for certain!!

Five of the Dirty Dozen and a Half have passed. Cliff Broussard was the last before Bob. It will be a sad moment for me at baseball, football and basketball games not to have Bob sitting next to me. The baseball games will be the one that will hurts the most.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but without Bob Fournet I think we might still be waiting to host our first baseball regional.

I will dearly miss him. Please keep him in your prayers.
I never got to know my great uncle Bob all that much and looking back on it I'd wish I had. The little time that we did spend together over the last few years was surrounded in talk of UL athletics. All my life Bob lived a few houses down the street and not till a few years back did I realize how much we had in common. Funny how life unfolds as you get older, thank you all for your kind words.

    Condolences from the Blue Raiders.

I did not know Bob, but if he's a friend of CajunCharlie (who I have met) he is a friend of mine.

Sounds like the Ragin Cajun Nation lost a great man.

  7. UL Baseball UL's Dirty Dozen loses member Arthur J. Broussard

LAFAYETTE - A native of Lafayette, Arthur died at home on Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

Arthur was a retired banker who played a prominent role in the financial and commercial development of Lafayette and the surrounding area for over 42 years until his retirement in 1988.

He began his banking career in August of 1946 after returning from naval service after World War II. Over the forty-two plus years of employment, Arthur worked at Guaranty Bank and Trust Company and its successor banks, Premier Bank and Bank One, now known as J. P. Morgan Chase Bank.

Over his career he worked in most all areas of the bank, starting in the Bookkeeping Department and working his way to the Presidency of the bank in March of 1967. Under his leadership, the bank grew from a small community bank of $43,000,000.00 in assets to an $831,000,000.00 bank in 1984. Guaranty Bank grew from the number two bank in the market to the seventh largest in the state over this period of time. Arthur and his team of bankers at Guaranty, Premier and Bank One played a major role in the development and success of many local businesses for over forty-two years.

My grandfather sits on that row and I can remember him taking me to games when I was younger and those men being the nicest people you'd ever meet. God Bless his family and he will be missed at the Tigue.

I first met Arthur back in 1959 when he set up my first home loan. On leave from the Navy, married two years and wanted to buy a home for my wife and I. Several years passed before I met him again and that was at a baseball game at the Tigue back in 1993. The most impressive thing is that he remembered me when he saw me. Needless to say I was up in years by then. For my "Dirty Dozen and a Half" friends who have passed, I miss them all. They say nothing remains the same, but how I wish for those days.......
