Lady Cajuns Tennis Sweeps Southern Miss, 7-0

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team earned their first sweep of the season with a 7-0 shutout at Southern Miss on Monday afternoon. Monday’s win gave UL their third consecutive victory.

The Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 6-4 overall, as Southern Miss fell to 4-6 on the season.

UL secured the doubles point as the top-slotted duo of Audrey Wooland and Julie Mazinova picked up an 8-4 win over USM’s Stephanie Dellocono and Vroni van Berlo.

In the second doubles point, Louisiana’s Hannah Appleyard and Sandra Alhqvist knocked off Asa Bengtson and Elja van Berlo, 8-3.

Milou Israel and Briggitt Marcovich secured another Cajuns victory in the third doubles slot with an 8-2 win over Southern Miss’ Zoe Lee and Shannon Rogers.

Top-seed Mazinova claimed a 6-1, 6-2 sweep of USM’s Dellocono to earn UL’s first singles point. Monday’s victory gave the senior her ninth win of the season. Wooland’s sixth singles win this season came with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Golden Eagle Bengtson.

In the three-spot, Milou earned her eighth victory, defeating USM’s Elja van Berlo 6-3, 6-0. Louisiana’s Marcovich defeated Lee, 6-0, 6-4.

Appleyard claimed a win (6-3, 6-0) over Rogers, while Gordon knocked off Frances Askew (6-1, 6-0) to complete the sweep for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

The Ragin’ Cajuns return to Lafayette, opening up a four-match homestand. Horizon League member Cleveland State will visit Louisiana on Monday, March 14. The match’s first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
