C4L, I have to agree to some extent, but remember this even under Hall the revenue produced by fans were awful. Women basketball will not come close to paying for itself even if it did reach the levels of MTS. That is a financial reality. This university will not undermine football, mbb, softball, baseball to rebuild this wbb program. IMO this coach is a caretaker who has been given another year and possibly longer if he improves at all.
Do I like it? No way, but none of my donations are going to wbb. They go to the other sports and I would not view it well to see a large salary going to wbb from the general athletic fund, or RCAF.
I am certain Farmer would be happy to accept a huge largess to upgrade women basketball, so a couple of thousand people committing to donating a hundred dollars are more for five seasons would do the trick.
Do not know this at all, just thinking out loud, but maybe there is someone they would like to get but would have a better shot if they wait another year???

You are correct, I don't think that they have ever approved an interim contract from outside the university for one season. I could be wrong, perhaps Turbine might find something on that in archives. But I don't recall any such contracts being approved for UL or actually requested.
I agree whole heartedly with the chicken/egg problem. But, unfortunately our women's basketball program has never had a strong following that I can recall. It is very possible that Scott and the UL administration threw the majority of their money at Marlin and Hudspeth knowing those 2 would make us the most money. One consequence may have been that once those programs started generating more revenue they could then go after a better women's coach but for now we have to settle with the current coach.
I would love to see the Pre-Marlin/Hudspeth revenue numbers from basketball and football and see what they are after one year of having these 2 guys. I don't want to suggest miracles but I wouldn't be suprised if they are at least 50% more after 1 year.
If we want better coaches/facilites we need everyone to support our teams in good times and bad, be willing to pay more for tickets/parking and know that we have people in place that want to upgrade what we currently have. I think having a new press box on the football field will immensely release the eye sore that the current one is. Our basketball facility couldn't ask for anything more in my opinion. The softball complex should be one of the nicest in the SBC. Once renovations are complete on the baseball complex it should be one of the nicest in the SBC. Butts in seats = upgrades.
