Thread: UL Keeps Rogers For Uncertain Future

  1. Default Re: Rogers future uncertain

I am saying if the option were do nothing and retain the status quo, OR give La'Ryan Gary the interim tag with incentives. . .

Then I have to go with La'Ryan Gary. I have already given an example of this very model being used at UL in Volleyball. The problem there was they waited nine crucial months to make a decision.

Make a decision now/soon. If the AD can have the interim tag, if T&F can have the interim tag, so can W's BB.

I understand the monetary concerns, and WBB not being a revenue producing sport, but to use the excuse that our AD has "too much on his plate right now" is embarrassing. Do the ADs at other schools just forget about certain programs don't generate revenue because he's too busy? I'm not buying that. If he can't handle ALL of the duties of being AD, then the first thing on the agenda (even before football, basketball, etc) is to hire a competent associate AD to assist in directing ALL scholarship sports at the university. Sorry if that offends anyone, but that's my opinion.

No knock against LaRyan. I love the guy.

But if we would write off WBB to that degree, I would not attend a game.

We talk about wanting to become one of the big boys?

Amy Kraljev jumped from grad assistant to HC in volleyball.

La'Ryan Gary GAED (grad assistant experience diploma) from last year.

    Interim.

My thoughts exactly. If we as an athletic department can't walk and chew gum at the same time, let's just say it.

Rogers was very successful against the historically black colleges and universities. What was his win total in conference? 15 games in 4 years?? Maybe its time to hire another successful small college coach!

Only if he has less than a .171 winning percentage in the Sun Belt.

    Risky? yes. Worse? no.

How can you do worse than hiring a guy who got banned for a game for doing cartwheels in front of the opponents bench.

I'm just saying you can't do nothing because Scott is only interim AD. David Walker hired Errol Rogers and Steve Silvey when he was interim AD.

Don't get me wrong, I think we need to get a new coach, however, that is a pretty legitimate reason for not getting a new coach. _
This statement is ignorant, WBB has never been successful in the history of the program. Coach Hall was here for what 3 season? That is not enough time to build a fan base. If we were to win like MTSU does we would have a strong enough following to afford a $200k per year coach.

I honestly think that we should go after Pokey Chapman. She can flat out coach and was terminated/resigned for allegation that did not involve any players that were currently on scholarships or even involved with the university at all. If we were to hire her and she were to start winning like she did at LSU or like J Kelly Hall won while here then you would see a stronger following of WBB here.

Errol Rogers was a joke of a hire when we hired him and our athletic department will look like a bunch of fools if we keep him.

I would definitely give Pokey another chance. She knows she can't screw up again. If she leaves after 4 years and gets a big conference job then we were quite successful. The assts. could be .....

FWIW Rogers is paid $98,000 annually.

Chatman is now the GM and head coach for the WNBA's Chicago Sky. Not sure if she would leave that for a college job.
