UL Keeps Rogers For Uncertain Future

_ Chop, Rogers is as bad in his own way as Baldwin was. Right now, our girls couldn't beat a good HS team. That is ALL Roger's doing. If we did what you want, we'ed have never hired Marlin; after all no one was going to Men's hoops, either. _

Im not here to say Rodgers is good. Me saying what I am saying is certainly not an endorsement of Rogers.

All im saying is, if it requires a significantly higher investment to upgrade the program I would hold off for now.
there are a lot of pots on the stove at the moment.

If you get the money sports going the right direction, it will trickle down to the womens basketball program.

If you take the extra 80K that you would have to pay to get a decent WB coach and put it in football or mens basketball, and that 80K turns into 180K then you can address the WB situation properly.

I have already sent my email and I will also call Scott in the next few days.

Before the season began and again in January, I posted on this board reasons why those who cared about this athletic department should go out and watch this basketball team so you could make an honest assessment about the overall quality of this team and any progress they could be making. Those of you who have should have a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of this team and the coaching staff. I also mentioned that when the time came, you could make your feelings known as to why this head coach should be retained or let go. That time has now come.

It's one thing to voice your opinion on a message board, it's another thing to say it to someone who matters. I realize that Scott has a lot on his plate. It would indeed be difficult, if not impossible, to find a quality replacement for Errol at this particular time. And I'm not necessarily suggesting that anyone recommend that Errol be replaced. What I am saying is that we who care about our athletic department as a whole need to talk to Scott and tell him what we think and how we feel.

Why am I saying "athletic department as a whole?" Two immediate major reasons come to the forefront. Womens' basketball is the third largest sport under the NCAA umbrella. More games are being televised nationally which means more money is being put into the sport each year, more attention is being paid by sponsors. The university got a nice little paycheck from the NCAA with that at large bid we had four years ago. I know that we love our softball and baseball programs more than we do the basketball, but, quite simply, they cannot generate the revenue that womens' basketball can.
We know we can do it here because it's been done before, even with lackluster resources. The Sun Belt Conference, as good as it is against outside competition, is susceptible within itself for teams to move up within the ranks. There are two strong programs right now, MTSU & UALR. WKU is a step behind them and Denver is a notch below WKU. There is a jumble below them that have up and down years and Denver is leaving. MTSU & UALR are where they are because they have the right coaching staffs in place. To get back to where we were four years ago, which is where UALR is now, we need to get the right coaching staff in place. Whether we do that now or after next season, it does need to get done. The one problem with waiting is the possibility that we dig ourselves a deeper hole to climb out of, which means it'll take longer to get back to the top levels of success.

Division 1 head coach of any sport is NEVER an entry level job.

I am saying if the option were do nothing and retain the status quo, OR give La'Ryan Gary the interim tag with incentives. . .

Then I have to go with La'Ryan Gary. I have already given an example of this very model being used at UL in Volleyball. The problem there was they waited nine crucial months to make a decision.

Make a decision now/soon. If the AD can have the interim tag, if T&F can have the interim tag, so can W's BB.

I understand the monetary concerns, and WBB not being a revenue producing sport, but to use the excuse that our AD has "too much on his plate right now" is embarrassing. Do the ADs at other schools just forget about certain programs don't generate revenue because he's too busy? I'm not buying that. If he can't handle ALL of the duties of being AD, then the first thing on the agenda (even before football, basketball, etc) is to hire a competent associate AD to assist in directing ALL scholarship sports at the university. Sorry if that offends anyone, but that's my opinion.
