1)Football, 2)baseball, 3)softball, 4)soccer, and any others that need a indoor large area to do training. The Marching Band could probably squeeze in a few dates. I personally have NOT looked at any of the plans, but if Gerald Hebert tells me that it is NOT going to be wide enough to put in a Competitive Indoor Track then that is what I am going on with my post!! There may be a 40yard track for sprint times in the 40 I don't know for sure.

Part of the reason for NOT building it any larger at the location that has been choosen, is that any larger would cut into the other Football practice fields!!!

DaddyCajun post to inform not to spread false hope or rumors!!

If it is as large as a regulation football field [as you said it is in your first post] it is more than large enough for an indoor track. I am not arguing this point, merely pointing out that if you were told that the indoor facility contained a regulation size football field, but was too small for a competition grade indoor track, you were mis-informed.

As I said previously, when it became obvious that UL Track and Field was not going to get the benefit of this facility, the possibility of locating an indoor track at Blackham was discussed by NS and others who SUPPORTED putting a track in the new facility. It was determined that the concrete walls in Blackham were too close together to allow for a track, hence the 'too small' thing.

I think one of the reasons given for not putting a competition indoor track was the need for stands plus the track would enlarge the facility too much. If there is a 120 x 53 yard football field, wouldn't at least part or all of the track be temporary or portable? I don't know the dimensions of a regulation indoor track. It seems to me that they should invest in a track that can be set up in the Dome if it's that important to have large indoor meets.

A regulation indoort track is a 200 meter oval. The track, bleachers, etc., as proposed for the indoor facility would have ALL been portable. The dome is probably out; but the Convention Center remains a possibility, but only for meets. The reason that it was SO important to have it in the new facility was that it could be in place for training AND meet purposes for the entire indoor season [late December-February] and would not have to be set up for a one or two day meet then taken down.

I guess that's where the problem lies, that is the permanent set-up. Football would be effectively shut out of their facility for about 6 weeks, mid January through February, which is one of their most important off-season training periods. Of course, the Dome would be out as a permanent set-up because of basketball.

Football can't practice in that period.

Yesterday was the only day in the past month that I didn't check the board, and I could have swung by to take pics as I was done with work by 4:15 PM. Darn the luck. I saw the news footage on KATC this morning, and it was very exciting to see the delivery and Gerald speaking about the new facility. I wasn't aware that UL will be the only team in the Sunbelt with an indoor practice facility. That's awesome!

  11. Default Indoor facility

I have a question---An indoor facility to be used in BAD weather--Right---How will the players and coaches get there???? Can't park cars as I understand it now--Also no busses---Can someone explain the plan!!!! I remember using Blackham to practice football on bad days--even the barns--but we bussed there and back!!!!

The indoor facility is scheduled to start construction following football season. Does anybody know what it looks like?? Are there any drawings available to post on this board??
