UL Football KATC Reporting McNeese Backs OUT

McNeese backed out of the 2005 football game and it was quickly filled with Northwestern St. as per KATC at 10p.m.

McNeese pulls out of game vs. UL

Hold the phone on resuming that Louisiana-McNeese State rivalry in football.

UL Athletic Director Nelson Schexnayder was close to officially announcing a 2005 Ragin' Cajun schedule that was to include a home game against McNeese, but the Cowboys nixed the contest with a phone call on Thursday.

"After we talked (on Wednesday), I got a call from McNeese athletic director Sonny Watkins on Thursday, and he started going on and on," Schexnayder said Friday of the reversal of plans.

"Finally I said, 'Just tell me, are we going to play or not?' and he said 'We can't play.' So if we're not going to play, we're not going to play."

McNeese, which would have had a $95,000 guarantee to play the game at Cajun Field, had not formally agreed to the contest.

"We had sent them a letter of agreement, with the details of the game, and said we were going to follow with a formal agreement to sign and send back to us," Schexnayder said. "Obviously, they changed their mind, so we have to go out and find another game."

    I have a Question

I also saw the report on KATC last night, but this morning's Advertiser was vague about the Northwestern commitment.

    What's going on?

Me too, I could care less about playing McNeese. I would much rather play LaTech, Houston, Rice, Southern Miss or Tulane even if it meant going there to get the series started again.

Yeah, if they cared as much about playing us then I'm sure it would happen. The welcome mat at Cajun Field is always out.

They have the same disease as the I-A National Champs, they're "too good and too scared" to play us here. Although at least with LSU, I can understand the argument that Cajun Field would have a hard time handling the overflow of LSU fans should they come here to play us. The only argument that I buy is that McNeese is scared to play us here. They are, as bigearl says, Yella like their helmets.

    God Bless.

I hate that school in Baton Rouge as much as the next Cajun Fan, but the truth is, as much as I hate to admit it, is that they deserve to be snobish until we beat them. We also need to stop worrying about the other schools in this state, especially the I-AA schools. Although I mean no disrespect to McNeese or Northwestern, since they have excellent programs, the rivalry that everybody talks about is in the past. We should not have rivalries with I-AA schools. I would love to see another I-A school on the schedule, even if it means traveling. After a long drought of inept coaching, we finally seem to be on the right track with the likes of Tony Robichaus, Ricky Bustle, Robert Lee and Stefanie Lotief. I think the real problem that remains are the two people at the top, namely the AD and the President. They have been the thorn in the asses of Ragin Cajun fans for far too long. Sorry for the negativity, but it is true. In any event, I think we are moving in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go. GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!!!!!!
