All right. Now that I know I can post, here goes. (for the 4th time).
Baldwin, Evans (underachieved with the talent he had), Fletcher (horrible X and O guy, also underacheived with talent he had), Stokley (allowed to stay entirely too long, too many 6-5 seasons, although it is tough to win against all the powerhouses they had to schedule because the itiots at the top would not get into a conference) Need I say more?
I know that after the basketball program received the death penalty the president wanted to focus on academics, and in that regard he has done an admirable job. However, the lack of vision and disregard for the athletic program for all these years has disgusted me. Everybody wants to make the same excuse, "We don't have a budget" and "We don't have the financial support of the local business community." The truth is we could have had the support of the local business community for all those years if it weren't for the administration turning a cold shoulder to them. I could sit here and give you a laundry list of local business owners, some of whom played for UL, who tried to donate money to various programs, but were told if you don't do it our way you can't do it at all. Those people have become apathetic and disconnected.
Another way the administration has failed us is the fact that I can go anywhere in this city and find more lsu ~~~~ than CAJUN gear. Example: I have been going into a local golf retailer for the last 4 years to try and purchase a Cajun golf bag and/or umbrella. They tell me that unless they order 50 or more items the University won't let them have it. Here's an idea, how about letting them order a few to see how sales go and them maybe they will order more. I know, I know "lsu is the state school." BS. It's not my state school, nor the state school for thousands of Ragin Cajuns. This is Lafayette. Home of the Ragin Cajuns. I don't give a rats a!! about that school in Baton Rouge.
I am sick and tired of hearing people in our own back yard referring to us as a mid-major. Until we lose that loser mentality that is all we will be. It is truly amazing all of the success that our athletic program has had in spite of the powers that be. With all of the talent that we have, and have access to, there is no reason why we can't be a top 30 program in EVERY sport. And don't tell me it can't be done. There are several states that have more than one successful major university. Mississippi (Ole Miss, Miss State, Southern Miss), Alabama (U of A, Auburn).
As I said in my earlier post, we have made progress (better late than never). However, it is time to for a change at the top. We need fresh faces with vision. We need to reach out to the local business communities and to the fans (Yes, I know we have started to do that in the last 3 years) but we need more. No offense to the hockey fans out there, but when they can pack the Cajun Dome to see that ~~~~, and we can't pack it for a Cajun basketball game, something is wrong.
I don't mean to be negative, but let's keep this good thing going.
GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
