Late one,

LOUISIANA La. - Tara Hamilton hasn't been here long, but she likes what she sees of Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball program.
The feeling was mutual Friday night at Ragin' Cajun Softball Park when Hamilton ripped a three-run, line drive home run to end a taut pitchers' duel and give UL a 3-0 victory over Mississippi in its first action in the Mardi Gras Classic.
"It's what you always want, to come up in the seventh inning in that kind of situation," said Hamilton a sophomore transfer from the University of Wisconsin.
"Any of our girls would have liked the same spot, and they would have come through in the clutch, too. I was just in the right spot at the right time."
The Cajuns, who finished the opening day of play with a late contest against Northwestern State, were held scoreless for six innings by Rebels pitcher Dana Brill.
Catcher Joy Webre led off the seventh with a single to right centerfield and Brittany Bryant lashed a double to the left field corner to set the table for Hamilton, who jumped on a pitch and sent it screaming over the fence near the left field foul pole.
It was a dramatic way to introduce herself to Cajun fans for Hamilton, who tagged the first homer of her college career to win it.
"This is a totally different experience," Hamilton said of the No. 7-ranked Cajun program. "It's great. I'm very happy where I am.
"The coaches, players, everybody is team-oriented. It's awesome."
