Thread: Speaking of Rivalries

Yeah, I have to agree it probably isnt a good idea to renew a rivalry with a 1AA school. Cajuns are trying to get over that hump and I dont think that is the way to go about doing it. I will say though, I dont have a problem with the upcoming McNeese game. I also feel, we need to set our standards a lil higher for a rivalry game, the hell with Funroe. As it is, it does just kill me that we lost to then in consecutive yrs, but I would like to see a more traditional 1A opponent like a Tulane or Tech. Ultimately, I would love to see LSU A&M as a yearly opponent, but we know they wont let that happen! As for the attendance argument, come on guys, that is on us! There is no reason the Cajuns shouldnt have 25000 in that stadium every game, no matter who the opponent is! This town is too big to have less than that there. I think we are going in the right direction as fans and the tailgating and all of that fun stuff is helping, but as a community we need to emphasize these games and shut down shop while the Cajuns are home!

Agree, no problem with this upcoming game. I recall many of the USL/McNeese games with fond memories, even the ones we let get away! However, unless they are willing to move up to 1-A, this will not, and can not be a rivalry game. Again, I was in school when Tech was still an annual brawl, and I'd like to see that one; but that too is unlikely unless we both end up in CUSA, or some derivative of that conference.

LXA, I couldn't agree more with you regarding attendance. Lafayette and the immediate surrounding area is larger than many BCS school communities. No reason we shouldn't have 25K minimum at the games. Hopefully we are seeing that trend now. Even though I'm about 450 miles west I plan on getting season tickets this next fall. When I can't make it to town, I'll just give them to family.

Building it(Bustles Program) and they are coming(fans) over 20,000+ for the first 4 home games and a let off at the end due to the losses and weather I guess!!!

I predict 25,000+ atleast a few games this 2005 season!

Hope you're right. Winning games will get us to reach that mark. I'm optimistic we can reach that goal. I'd rather see 30,000 with people sittin in the grass. Then they could give away earplugs along with the footballs.

I have been scanning my pics for what you were talking about, and I finally found a picture I took in 2002. I had incorrectly stored it with track stuff.

It was a KLVI-KPEL sponsered trophy that went to the victor between UL & Lamar. I suspect Louisiana might have it for a while. I'll try and get a better picture.
