Thread: Speaking of Rivalries

    UL Football Speaking of Rivalries

Have any of you older guys ever heard of the Sabine shoe. I think it was a trophy, for a trophy game between us and Mcneese but, I can't really be sure. If yall ever pass by the brand new trophy case in the Athletic complex lobby, take a look at it. At UL we don't have any trophy games like Indiana vs. Purdue (Old Oaken Bucket) or Notre Dame vs. USC (the Golden Shalaylee I think). I just think having a trophy game would be fun, and put some college revelry back into our program.

SO, if any one has some information about the Sabine Shoe, I'd like to know what it was for.

I thought it was the Cypress Mug they played for or maybe a flag.

There are a few toilets I think in Monroe that they won for beating us...

Even though Mcneese is a IAA i would like to begin a series with teams like this ( and northwestern) As long as they agree to play here i think it is a good for both schools and for attendence.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think creating a series with a I-AA team is going to do anything for our program. Sure we'd have a good crowd, and it would be a great atmosphere, but I think it would be a mistake. I'd rather see a yearly rivalry with a trophy involving Tulane, LA Tech, or ULM. Just my $.02!!!!!!!

The last time I checked we now play Monroe every year. If you can talk Tulane and Latex into playing us every year then by all means do so.

The conversation was about having a mug or a shoe as a rivalry trophy. I meant I'd rather see a rivalry trophy of some kind with Tulane, LA Tech, or ULM (who we play every year)...
