After putting forth a heroic effort this past week, Louisiana's La'Ryan Gary has been tabbed as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Player of the Week.
For the week, the senior forward averaged 16.5 points and 3.0 rebounds as the Cajuns extended their win streak to 11 games and captured a share of the Sun Belt West Division title.
In his final game at the Cajundome against Denver, the Lafayette, La. native went out with a bang. Two years removed after suffering a serious leg injury, Gary scored a career-high 22 points. He connected on a personal best 12 of 15 free throws and recorded a career-best five blocks. He played a career-high 39 minutes in the 58-52 overtime win.
In the win over ULM, Gary chipped in 11 points as the Cajuns set a new school record with their 10th consecutive Sun Belt victory.
Now Gary and the rest of the Cajuns will prepare for the Sun Belt Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark. After earning the West's no. 2 seed, UL earned a first round bye and will await the winner of Saturday's WKU and ULM contest.
The Cajuns will tip-off the tournament on Sunday, March 6 at 6:45 p.m. CT.
