LOUISIANA La. – University of Louisiana head football coach Rickey Bustle signed 24 players to national letters of intent on Wednesday. The signing class, which features 10 Louisiana natives, marks the fourth for the university under Bustle.

Bustle and his assistants inked 21 high school athletes and three (3) junior college transfers. In addition to the Louisiana commitments, the Cajuns coaching staff ventured outside the state to gain six (6) commitments from Texas, five (5) from Florida and two (2) from prep schools in Virginia.

“This is going to be an extremely productive class,” Bustle said. “Bringing in this class with what we have returning from last season should help us get around the corner.”

“We are probably bringing in the fastest class, speed-wise, that we’ve ever had since I’ve been here,” Bustle added. “This is also the most athletic group, but I am most excited about the speed this group will add to our returning squad.”

The Cajuns signed three Lafayette natives including two prospects from St. Thomas More High School. Highlighting the list of local stars is STM quarterback John Hundley who was ranked No. 1 in Louisiana and No. 28 nationally on the Rivals.com recruiting service listings of “pro-stlye” quarterbacks.

In addition to Hundley, Louisiana signed former STM standout Don Hargroder and tight end Kyle Pirtle of Lafayette High School.

The 2005 class could provide Louisiana with a boost in its running game, which hasn’t seen a 1,000 yard rushing season by a running back in program history. Louisiana native Tyrell Fenroy (St. Charles Catholic HS) and Houston native Deon Wallace (Worthing HS) both rushed for well over 1,500 yards during their senior seasons.

Fenroy finished his career with 4,320 rushing yards and 5,714 all-purpose yards en route to being named the District 10-3A MVP each of the last two years. Wallace, who drew strong interest from Kansas State, was ranked 12th on the Rivals.com recruiting site’s listing of the nation’s top all-purpose backs and was first in Texas in that category.

“They are both quality tailbacks and I think they will elevate the play of our entire ground game,” Bustle said. “Both should become extremely productive for our football team.”

Three members of the signing class are currently enrolled in school for the spring semester and will enjoy the benefits of the Cajuns’ off-season program and spring practices. Hargroder along with Brad Bryant and Brit Framel are currently enrolled in spring classes.

Louisiana signed 13 players on offense, 10 on defense and one (1) on special teams. In addition to boosting the rushing attack, the Cajuns also got help for its offensive line by signing three linemen including 320-pounder Mike Walzack for Pima (Ariz.) Junior College. The Cajuns also serviced their needs in the defensive secondary by rounding up four (4) prospects for defensive back positions.

“All of this is made possible by us being able to go recruit the best student-athlete to come to this university no matter where they are from,” Bustle said. “That’s made in part by a large number of individuals who have given financial support to the program for recruiting. We’re all invested in this together. Our staff appreciates their

Levier and Cox did the same thing (greyshirt) and they were introduced as part of the recruiting class. Johnson's absence makes me wonder if he is/will be part of the program.

P.S. Turbine, Thanks for having a great place like RaginPagin.com for us all to exchange ideas and information

This is a great class for us. SPEED SPEED SPEED. We got the much needed gam breakers that we needed and some players that will be able to fill some holes if need be next year.

As a whole the sun belt did great and i think that the confernce is beginning to make a step forward.
