Two Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns collected individual titles, while another pair earned All-Conference in day one of the men and women's 2011 Sun Belt Conference Track & Field Indoor Championships held at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
The UL men are just five points out of first after leading for the majority of the evening. UL has 38 points and sits third behind leader Arkansas State with 43 and second-place North Texas with 41 points. On the women's side, the Cajuns have accumulated two points and are tied with UALR for 10th place.
Antwain Keyes won the high jump indoor event for the second consecutive year, notching a height of 6-9 ½. The Lafayette High product earned his fifth All-Conference distinction in the high jump since the 2009 season.
Teammate Brent Adams also clinched All-Conference accolades in the high jump with his height of 6-7 ½.
Three Cajuns placed in the top-5 in the men's shot put event. Myles Melancon notched his first conference title with a toss of 56-1. Jacob Domingue placed second with his mark of 55-4 ¾. Meanwhile Tyler Guidry garnered valuable points for the Cajuns, placing fifth with a distance of 50 9 ¼.
Senior Jasmine Anderson had a strong day one, qualifying for the finals in three different events. She led the SBC in the 200-meter dash prelims with a run of 24.57. She qualified for the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.83, while also making a time of 7.11 in the 55-meter hurdles.
Alexis Malone (7.12) and Morgan Breaux (7.19) also notched qualifying times to advance to the finals in the 55-meter hurdles.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Amanda Roberts notched a qualifying run of 58.55 seconds.
Justin Jones made it to the finals in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.466.
