The 15th ranked Ragin' Cajuns used their third consecutive shutout - tenth of the season - to defeat Houston Baptist 5-0 on Sunday, capturing the Cowgirl Classic title in Lake Charles. UL (14-1) finishes the tournament, hosted by McNeese State, with a 4-1 record.

Ashley Brignac (6-0) threw her second consecutive complete game shutout, striking out a season-high 16 batters while scattering six hits.

Erikka Murphy led the Cajuns at the plate with three hits and an RBI. Christi Orgeron also added an RBI and extended her team-best hitting streak to 15 games.

UL, playing as the home team, got on the board first with one run in the first inning. Lead off singles by Nerissa Myers and Erikka Murphy, followed by walks to Christi Orgeron and Gabriele Bridges plated Myers to give UL the early 1-0 lead.

The Cajuns were unable to do any further damage as they left the bases loaded.

UL would add to the lead with three runs in the fourth inning, all coming with two outs. Megan Granger reached on an error with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball with two outs.

After a Myers single up the middle put runners on the corners, Brianna Cherry - pinch running for Granger - scored on a wild pitch and Myers advanced all the way to third.

An RBI single by Murphy scored Myers and put UL ahead 3-0. After Murphy stole second base, Christi Orgeron delivered an RBI double to left center field to make the score 4-0. The double by Orgeron extended her hitting streak to 15 games to start the season.

The Cajuns added one more run in the fifth inning. Natalie Fernandez was hit by a pitch, then Paige Cormier hit an infield single to put runners at first and second with nobody out. After two quick outs, Myers grounded a ball to the Huskies (9-6) shortstop, who threw the ball away, allowing the runner to score from second, giving UL their final 5-0 lead.

The Cajuns will return to action next weekend when they travel to the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. UL is set to take on Virginia, Alabama, Oregon, Temple and Illinois State at the three day event.

The Sunday contest against Illinois State can be seen on ESPN3.com at 11:00 a.m. CT.
