LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns provided their fans with a season-high 91 points and a key Sun Belt Conference win Thursday night, but apparently that wasn't enough.
After Cajun head coach Robert Lee grabbed the public address microphone after his team's 91-76 crunching of Western Kentucky and thanked them for their support, he had his team join with the crowd and sing the school fight song.
"We've sung our victory song in the locker room after every game we've won," Lee said. "Tonight, we want to sing it out here for you."
The Cajuns won't win any Sun Belt chorus titles, and the band drowned out much of their vocal effort. But the 5,011 on hand weren't in a mood to be critical.
"A lot of places have traditions like that," said Cajun senior Brian Hamilton, who finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. "It's time we did something like that, and it's better when everybody sings it."
"Western Kentucky is Coach's biggest rival," said Cajun senior center Chris Cameron, who had four three-pointers and 19 points. "He was pumped up ... he wanted to show his appreciation to the fans."
Lee said he wasn't certain if public singing was going to become a part of every win, or just for big victories.
