_ Kevin commented on his show today that while Saturday's attendance was OK, he was hoping it would be larger. He then went on to wonder if it was possible for the team to ever draw 10000 fans ever again. Granted it has happened in the past but the landscape has changed since then and it has been almost 20 years since it occurred. I called in and commented that it was a little soon to expect that as we have had 5 consecutive poor seasons coming into this year and Coach Marlin has not been here long. In my view, if he has time to promote his program and more importantly, do something that will attract national attention, it is possible to get 10000 in the Dome at some point in the future. Keeping things in perspective, is there another southern mid major other than Memphis that has drawn over 7000 this year. If there is, I don't know of one. Memphis is not a basketball mid major despite being in CUSA due to their tradition. Does anyone else think we are capable of once again getting a 10000 crowd in the Dome for basketball? _

I think it is possible, but not as much as it was in the past. I think the largest crowd we ever had was when UMASS came into town when I was in college. I say that because they were a top 3 team if I'm not mistaken but they certainly had one of the best teams in the country with stars galore in Lou Rowe, Camby, Patillo and of course their coach Calipari. I don't know if you can draw a team like that here to play us on our home court any longer. A lot of the big schools will not travel to a mid-major and play them on their home court. I'm not saying it can't happen but the chances of it happening have to be less now than they were in the past.

Having said that, someone else mentioned the fact that we did pull over 7,000 people with a losing record. Sure, we have a nice win streak going with a fresh start and first year head coach but its not like we're a top 25 team playing for seeding in the tourney. I think that if this program continues to evolve we surely can see a 10,000 number for a game or two.
