Kevin Foote-Cajun Basketball Attendance ?

Kevin commented on his show today that while Saturday's attendance was OK, he was hoping it would be larger. He then went on to wonder if it was possible for the team to ever draw 10000 fans ever again. Granted it has happened in the past but the landscape has changed since then and it has been almost 20 years since it occurred. I called in and commented that it was a little soon to expect that as we have had 5 consecutive poor seasons coming into this year and Coach Marlin has not been here long. In my view, if he has time to promote his program and more importantly, do something that will attract national attention, it is possible to get 10000 in the Dome at some point in the future. Keeping things in perspective, is there another southern mid major other than Memphis that has drawn over 7000 this year. If there is, I don't know of one. Memphis is not a basketball mid major despite being in CUSA due to their tradition. Does anyone else think we are capable of once again getting a 10000 crowd in the Dome for basketball?

Absolutely, these things are organic.

In light of the slow start, 7G is nothing short of amazing.

Half the crowd were there because they are fans. Half the crowd was there because UL is winning. Half the crowd was there because they wanted to be where people are.

With all those halves working in your favor, (under the perfect storm) it is easy to see how the place could overflow.

For us to get to 7000 with a losing record is a major accomplishment. This was a top ten crowd according to the paper. It has not happened that often in the past. If the program continues to improve and rivalries become heated again and the occasional big name team we can get 9 to 10 k. How many 10k crowds have we had in the past? One or 2.

Are you sure? I thought the top-ten crowd was for baseball Friday night.

Having attended MOST of the games this year I am very impressed with the attendance these last few games. I was there against Texas College when it said we had 2,200... and almost NO students. I was there on the sunday games during the saints games... I can honestly say its alot better! Can we get 10,000? Of course. Don't you think if we opened the season with the win streak we'd be there almost now?

Let me tell you if 17-3 UL meets 18-2 WKU in the dome in Feburary 2013 there will be standing room only. No doubt we need to have a couple of great seasons along with a foe that we respect.

The landscape has changed, you can see mediocre basketball every night, but if you get a couple of great teams playing well we will fill it. No doubt.
