ULL out to make amends

LOUISIANA La. -- There might not be a need to apologize, but the University of Louisiana basketball team plans to make amends for its last Cajundome appearance.

In that game, ULL dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener to a University of Denver team the Cajuns are now chasing for the West Division lead.

ULL men's basketball coach Robert Lee promises a better effort from his team which hosts Florida International in a SBC game beginning at 7:05 today.

After the Denver loss, the Cajuns completed a three-game conference road trip 3-0. That effort put ULL right behind Denver, which hasn't lost a conference game in four chances.

"We're excited about what we did on the road these last three games, but we have some unfinished business (at the Cajundome)," Lee said. "This team owes our fans a better performance.

"After that game (against Denver), we've made a quick turnaround. Now we're prepared to show the people in town how much we have improved."

The Cajuns will have plenty of chances to display their improvement to their fans the next few weeks. ULL plays seven of its next nine games at home.

FIU, which is at the bottom of the East Division, is the first of three straight at the Cajundome for the Cajuns. ULL plays Western Kentucky at the Cajundome Jan. 27 followed by a Jan. 29 game with Middle Tennessee.

The Golden Panthers are 7-10 after losing to the University of North Texas (68-60) on Monday night. That defeat was the fiifth straight for the Golden Panthers, who committed 26 turnovers.
