Four of the Cajuns' 2005 opponents ranked in the top 50
DURHAM, N.C. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns are ranked No. 47 nationally, according to the 205 Baseball America Preseason Poll.
Louisiana (34-23) returns 23 letterwinners from a year ago, including senior right-handed pitcher Kevin Ardoin, senior first baseman Phillip Hawke and senior third baseman Dallas Morris.
"I think with our veteran-type team this season," UL head coach Tony Robichaux said, "this will be the year for us to win the Sun Belt Conference. I think this team is so much better than the last two seasons."
The Cajuns will play a 60-game slate, including 33 home games at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. Most notably, the Cajuns will play in three tournaments this season including the 2005 Hawai'i Rainbow Baseball Classic.
"This is probably the most complete team since the 2000 team that went to Omaha. The combination of pitching, offense and defense should provide for a very successful season."
Louisiana will hold Fan Day on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Moore Field. The UL Alumni Game will begin at 2 p.m.
The Cajuns open the 2005 season with a three-game home weekend series against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 11-13.
