UL's Cameron hits second game-winner in three games

LOUISIANA La. - Somehow, some way, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns found a way.

Senior center Chris Cameron took a pass under the Southern Illinois basket from Brian Hamilton and came through with a short jumper for the winning points Wednesday night as UL held off the Salukis 63-61 before 3,366 at the Cajundome.

The nail-biter squared the Cajuns' record at 6-6 heading into Saturday's start of Sun Belt Conference play, while Southern Illinois fell to 11-3 on the season.

"The effort this team gave was just tremendous," UL coach Robert Lee said. "They played extremely hard."

So did SIU, which came into the game with a well-deserved reputation as a stingy defensive squad.

"I think the guys did accept it as a challenge," said Lee. "I said the other day that I didn't know if we could score 20 on them, and they took it as a personal challenge. They said if we only scored 20, we'd hold them to 19."
