Thread: Found at Last: A Tape of the First Super Bowl

  1. UL Football Found at Last: A Tape of the First Super Bowl

Football fans know what happened in Super Bowl I. The game, which was played on January 15, 1967, was the first showdown between the NFL and AFL champions. It ended with the Green Bay Packers stomping the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10.

For years, the Holy Grail of American sports video has been Super Bowl I -- the championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, the Paley Center for Media in New York believes it has a tape of a mostly complete broadcast of the 1967 game. WSJ's Lee Hawkins reports.

Unless they were one of the 61,946 people at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that day, or one of the fans who watched it live on NBC or CBS, there's one thing that all football fans have in common: They've never actually seen the game.

I was 6 then, but in my mind I was always 7, which I turned a few months later.

No wonder I was a Packers fan till the late 70's

Till this day my mom’s house (built in 1972) has a room with dark green walls ... totally due to my powers of persuasion. Sorry mom.

Love the red/white KC uniforms, but I don't thinkI could have talked my mom into a red walled living room.

I know exactly where I was that day. I had the pleasure of watching the game at a boat dock in Corpus Christi. We were waiting to go out but the weather was to bad for the crew boat and no work boat to be had. We watched the game on a small TV with each of us taking turns with a pipe wrench to turn the antanna when needed. The weather wasn't bad in Corpus, only the gulf was having a bad day. So we had a pretty good reception. Well we could see the game. We also slept on the floor that night.....and I was 32 years old.........

i was 13 watching the game in rayne at my uncle's house. really wasn't a super bowl party-there was no such thing back then. just a get together to watch the game. we were all packer fans. were fans since before the ice bowl vs. dallas. only the saints could have made me stop being a pack fan. anyway, the game wasn't such a big deal until joe namath beat the colts following the '69 season.
