Thread: National Championship game BS

UL Football National Championship game BS

Did anyone else think what USC did to OU was classless? Going for it on 4th down when you're up by 30-somthing points, keeping your starters in until the 4th quarter in a rout, passing the ball on 1st down in the 4th quarter when up by 30-something points, etc.

I'm afraid with the way the BullS***, I mean BCS works, amount of points scored on OU would help determine how much of this championship they shared. What I mean is that, Auburn was left out of the national title game because of a weak schedule (at least that's what i hear), but if USC lost or didn't win by enough, they might have to share the championship. I hate the BCS. The "Big" Schools are scared of the "little" schools. Whatever happened to a playoff system where you had to come with it week in and week out?

    God Bless.

I think the playoff system that so many of us want does take away from the traditions of college football, but you are absolutely correct that the big schools are scared of the little schools. Something must be done, but I do not think the BCS will be majorly overrhaulled any time soon.

what's also funny about this whole mess is how LSU fans are now pretending to care about Auburn, "oh poor auburn, undefeated, they should have a share of the title." Do they not realize we can see thru the smoke and realize that the only reason they're saying that is that they're still sore from having to share the title last season? Just a thought.

    God Bless.

I think that everyone making comments about USC being overrated and this and that motivated them to want to run up the score. It doesn't make it right but I do know where they were coming from. No one can now say that they were overrated, they arguebly have the best athletes in the country and I dont think there shoudl be a split title or anything of that nature because i feel that Auburn would have gone down the same way OU did.

I do not fault USC for "running up the score". All everyone would talk about is how they were overrated & how they didnt deserve a share of the title last year.

There is no one that can say that they do not deserive the title this year. They are by far the best team in the Nation.

there is a difference in my mind between beating someone handily and going for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter when you're up by 38 points. If I was Bob Stoops I would have walked off the field and never even gave Pete Caroll the time of day.

Now that the games has been played, I believe that OU for two straight years played in a game that they shouldn't have. Last year it should have been LSU and USC, and this year it should of been USC and Auburn. But that is only after watching the two games.

I thought it was the right thing to do to go for it on fourth down. OU's defensive backs played the worst game I've seen all year. Everyone and their mom know USC was going to throw the ball and OU just could not stop it.

Maybe next year we will see USC play LSU or Auburn, all three teams will have something special next year.

Alls I have to say is what goes around comes around. OU deserved to be routed for their own tasteless behavior in that regard.

Sorry you felt that way. I don't think we were really running up the score, though. We ran a total of 9 plays in the 4th quarter, all rushes. You can look at the 4th down 2 ways - either we kick a field goal, or run the ball, try to keep the clock moving and risk turning it over on downs. It's Carroll's way in those situations to avoid kicking the field goal and give the the opponents D the opportunity to stop the run (which they know is coming). It just so happened that White broke it and scored.

I'd also point out that we pulled our starters before OK did - Jason White threw for a TD against our scrubs two possessions after our last score.

Kimo .. if you guys have any extra scrubs please send them our way. You guys have a legitimate chance of dominating again next year. I would not mind seeing a 3 pete.

Thanks, appreciate the nod. We are extremely lucky that our program is in such good shape.

And yeah, though I hate to get ahead of myself, on paper the Trojans should be substantially better next season. We only graduate 3 or 4 starters and have all our skill players back. We are probably going to lose our QB to the draft, but will have 3 young guys who were all far better prospects.

One huge loss will be the mighty Cajun, Coach Ed Orgeron, who's following his dream down in MS. Though you better watch out, he's got his sights set on LA recruits!
