For the third time this season - and second consecutive week - a member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's track and field squad picked up an athlete of the week honor from the Sun Belt Conference.
Jasmine Manuel was named SBC Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts in the long jump at the Jeff Davis Bank McNeese Indoor Meet held Saturday, Feb. 5 in Lake Charles.
Manuel joins two-time recipient Jasmine Anderson (SBC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Jan. 18 and Feb. 1) as the Ragin' Cajuns' SBC athlete of the week honorees this season.
Manuel picked up a first place finish in the women's long jump at the Jeff Davis McNeese Indoor Meet, leaping 5.78m/18-11 ¾. The performance marked her college best, besting her previous mark of 18-9 at the LSU Twilight Invitational last season.
Both of Manuel's distances in the long jump this indoor season have exceeded 18 feet.
The Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's track and field teams wrap up the regular season portion of the 2011 indoor season Friday-Saturday, Feb. 11-12 at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. Following the Clemson meet the Cajuns take part in the Sun Belt Conference Championships Sunday-Monday, Feb. 27-28 in Jonesboro, Ark.
