Athlete 1969-73 Dwight Bo Lamar

_ I played for LSUNO {University of New Orleans} in 1971 and we played Bo in the NCAA regionals and got beat,I believe, 114-107. I do know we held Bo to around 40 plus points. He was way ahead of his time. It was magic to watch. We had our All American in Butch Webster, but Bo was better. Don't worry, I'm not a trader. My nephew, Kyle Plouhar will be number 74 on UL's football team. My teammate Teddy Harrell and I [Mike McFaddin] actually bought Bo a drink in a nightclub after the game. Teddy and I were pretty much bench warmers and saw alot of great players that year. 1971 we were ranked number 1 in the state the day we drove to Lafayette to see the great Bo Lammar. _

PS You guys also played Latech in a consolation game at the regional. Do you recall Latech's big star at the time?

Bonus Question - Name the big star for Tennessee State, the fourth team, in that regional.

Awesome! We'll need to hook up this year for some home games. MissingMandy will know where to find us. It would be great to hear some of those stories.
I was a young lad, but old cats like you and Destin can talk about the good old days! I did catch Blackham in its twilight years, and it was some kind of amazing....I cant imagine how it rocked when Bo and the boys played there!

_ was UL in division IA at that time? I was too young to ever have even heard of Bo Lamar, but did he make it to the NBA? _

I believe by his senior year, the NCAA had granted them DIV I status (if I recall), it could have been at his junior year mark......he played out his final season with the Lakers, getting about 15 minutes a game I think, all prior seasons were with the ABA

Do you think Dwight "Bo" Lamar should be on the ESPN bracket of 64 greatest college basketball players? I saw players on the bracket that there is no way were better college players than Lamar.

I think one of the reasons he is left off of some of these lists is that USL didn’t transition to division 1 (or whatever the classifications were called back then) until his Junior season. Somebody feel free to correct me on this if I am wrong.
