It didn't take Deon Wallace long on Saturday to show Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football fans what he could add to the team's offense.
The 6-foot-1 running back swung out of the backfield, gathered in a pass from White Team quarterback John Hundley and then sped past blitzing defenders for a 57-yard gain to the Red Team 3.
He scored on the next play, and the White Team went on to a 13-10 victory in the annual spring game at Cajun Field.
It was a splashy debut for Wallace, who redshirted last season as Tyrell Fenroy's historic 1,000-yard season helped UL to a 6-5 record and championship of the Sun Belt Conference.
"For the past year and a half I haven't been able to go on the field," Wallace said. "I was happy to be part of the system. We've got some great running backs here, and when I saw that play open up I said 'I've got to score one for the winning team.' "
"Deon is a tough runner for his size," said Cajun head coach Rickey Bustle, who spent his day watching local TV sportscasters serve as guest coaches. "And, if we can get him out in space, he's such a good athlete that he can make something happen.
"We flipped that screen out there to him today and he made some people miss."
Obviously, after Fenroy became the first 1,000-yard running back in school history, getting Wallace the ball will require some interesting math next fall. But it's worth doing.

one of the things that impressed me most beside wallace's break away speed, was after he scored the touchdown he went and personally thanked everyone of his offensive linemen. That is the kind of team unity we need. Fenroy is the same way and i saw him thank his linemen numerous times last year. Those are the kind of guys that make a linemen want to block for them. Can you imagine being a def. cord. from another team and looking in the backfield to see desormeaux, fenroy and wallace. Try to stop that running attack. Not taking anything away from jerry b/c he is still the man. I'm so excited for football season! Our whole backfield looked pretty good. I geuss having such a good line will benefit everyone.
Those are some awesome pictures
6-1 190? Is it just me or did this guy get recruited one year ago at 5-7 170?
Where has Deon Wallace been?

From what I understand its kind of like a hyper extended knee, it seems his foot got rolled in the last game.
I saw him sitting in the stands saturday...definitely out with an injury, but looked to be in good spirits!Originally Posted by Turbine
Anybody know why Deon Wallace was not dressed out or even on the roster for the spring game??
Geez, these are some key guys that need to get qualified! That worries me a bit. I sure hope these guys cut it.
