The curious, so that they can shut up. I mentioned before that a peon like me would never imagine a site like this would run $3k. It boggles my mind. Granted we all know it's invaluable to us.

The site needs a home (server) to reside. There are associated hardware and software costs. You can go the third party route and host it on someone elses server, but then you lose all control over everything except content.

I can easily see the cost being over 3K!
