LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women take a break between two challenging road games today when they host Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. at Earl K. Long Gym.
The matinee contest pits a Cajun team that is coming off an 82-68 Thursday night loss to Arkansas against an SHSU squad that hasn't played in two weeks since falling 70-68 to Centenary on Dec. 4.
UL blasted Centenary 67-42 on Dec. 1, providing a frame of reference for today's contest. SHSU (2-4) also fell 71-59 to Sun Belt Conference member North Texas on Nov. 27.
The 7-2 Cajuns, who visit Nebraska on Monday, are tied with the 1983-84 and 1985-86 UL teams for the best nine-game start in school history. The chances of moving to 8-2 hinge on their ability to put the Arkansas loss behind them.
Coach J. Kelley Hall's team shot 54 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range against the Lady 'Backs, while holding Arkansas to 46 percent. But UA got off 29 more shots (77 to 48) than UL in the game at Little Rock's Alltel Arena.
