I don't really understand RPI can someone explain how a win can hurt you?

50@ of your RPI is based on your opponents record, and 25% is based on THEIR opponents record.

Only 25% is based on your own record. Therefore, if you play a school with a bad record, your RPI goes down.....especially if they have played a weak schedule themselves.
