Plus points for national ranking......#1 ranked gets 100 more points; #2 99 pts etc etc.

We move up big time in rankings if Qyen Griffin and others that are highly regarded athletes gets what is deserved....Qyen earned his 4 or 5 stars and the high ranking points that one would expect for 1st/2nd team all-american. This happens and we fly well past Tech and all their Juco 3 stars.

So in theory ... a school that only signed three "5 star" players and one "2-star" player (4 players in total, nothing else) would rank as a better recruiting class than a school who signed twenty "2-star" players, two "3-star" players and one "4-star player.

Lets use cornerback as a comparison guage to see if the star ranking/point method has merit.

    Would . . .?

  3. a 5 star be projected get 100 tackles in a season (like Peanut)

  4. a 2 star be projected to get 10 tackles in a year?

Are you guys really arguing about recruiting class rankings? The hype that class rankings, and whether or not a guy is 3 stars or 3 1/2 or 4, is ridiculous. Last time I checked recruiting class rankings didn't count in the win loss column. Recruiting good talent is the foundation of a program. BUT, giving any serious concern to ranking the Top 25 and beyond ranked recruiting classes is just silly. Also, look back over the last 25 years at the "#1 recruit in the nation" and how they fared. It's a joke. While I'm on a rant, this also reminds me how ridiculous it is to have these huge press conferences, with kids advising us where "they are going to be taking their talents." Is it any wonder we have idiots like Lebron doing "The Decision?" Sign the kids, 1-2-3-4 or 5 stars, get them into school, and let's rank what they do on the field.

The point is, it's silly the way people get so hung up on how many stars a kid has, and consequently, how high a recruiting class is ranked. The rankings are a joke to begin with. Kids' rankings get boosted simply by who is recruiting them. If the same kid is being offered by 5 LSU schools, vs. 5 Sun Belt schools, simply being recruited by SEC schools gets them extra stars. Same player. We just got the commitment from the Griffin kid... he was Mr. Football in Mississippi on the "national champion" high school football team. But he wasn't being wooed by the big boys, consequently he has no stars. If LSU, Bama, and Ole Miss had offered him, suddenly he'd be a 4 star stud. I just don't get the fascination with how many stars a guy has behind his name, especially since the ranking system is so screwed up to begin with. Results on the field will draw the talent, not the number of stars we have on the sidelines.

People get excited because recruiting builds your program. Look at any conference in America and compare the top 3 ranked recruiting classes for the past 5 seasons and I bet that one of those teams won the conference.

Teams that have crap recruiting classes try to discredit rankings. Folks, those rankings do mean something!

Really? So Griffin, Mr. Football with over 2,500 yards and 40 touchdowns for South Panola, signs with the Cajuns and suddenly is a "no star" prospect? Right, that means a lot. If he'd signed with Alabama he'd be a 4 star prospect and Nick Saban would be called a genius. How about Micah Eugene?!! He was barely making the blue chip lists for Louisiana, let alone nationally. Now he signs with LSU and suddenly he's a multi star "athlete" prospect. Come on man, getting worked up about the prospect rankings is plain silly.

Both of those guys are both late bloomers, they don't get rated until their senior year. Griffin for example, did not start at any position until this year, so he wasn't rated early like guys who have been starting for two or three years.

You can always harp on the exception, but the facts are still there, the rating system works. Do they miss on kids? Of course they do! There is no way thy they can effectively rate all 4000 senior high school football players.

If you don't believe in the rating system then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. We've been the recipient of so many poorly ranked classes that you saw right through it and didn't give it an ounce of thought. The bottom line is that this is a part of measuring short term success and progression. This class will be ranked 20 spots higher with a very small window of time to work within than the past years. It may have its flaws and the true measure of the class will not be made until a couple of years but it is something to measure yourself against and it shows a definite line of progression in the types of athletes we are getting in here versus past years.

Now, since the rankings have little meaning to you, you have nothing to argue about so let the rest of us get back to arguing with each other.......

    Rivals updated rankings!!!!!!!!!!

Suck it all you haters of the ranking system! This one class has more 3 star athletes than we have signed in the last 10 years!

Tech has 17 with 3 stars and 9-10 are JC transfers----Didn't think some should have been 3s---go to Rivals football recruiting and hit commits!!!!

For whatever reason, Rivals gives 3 stars to many if not the majority of JUCO players who sign with D1 schools. I don't believe Scout follows that approach.

Steve Robertson of Scout explained that Rivals has like 500 or 600 more 3 star players. Being a 3* on Rivals is not as prestigious so to speak as being 3* Scout. Good players get left out still though
