Was it that Oh Brother show? Listened once, didn't really care for it much. As far as our recruiting class, I think it's great that we are trying to give some of these guys a chance. I hope they all qualify and get their degrees from the university we all love.
I heard candid Kyle the other morning talking about Qyen Griffin. Sounded like he wanted to say something like, he doesn't have stars because he isn't that good. Or that he is too stupid to go to college. Something like that.
What's new? A few local numbnuts trying to put UL down? Who knows about the value of our recruiting effort except those who are keenly aware of the details?
We've had a bad habit of clammering over recruiting classes that were just average (for us). Everyone does it. But in our case, from not getting it done on the field, we are easy fodder for the local numbnut. The only thing he still has left in life to swell his small genitalia is cutting us down.
I evaluate this class of recruits from looking at who they are, watching video on each, reading about their highschool accolades, seeing who else either showed interest and/or offered them, listening to the inside critical discussions... that is where my final take gets made.
As for the recruiting systems ranking... it just doesn't tell the actual story outside of the top 50 programs in the FBS and even those rankings are only good enough to say "you're in the second group of ten" and so forth.
We know that having multiple 3 star recruits and getting the numbers up are what have us a little elevated in the system rankings. If we had ever been to bowls in our last 15 years, with the exact program we've had, and recruited these exact players, our recruit ranking would be 10 to 15 spots higher. "That" is the problem with the validity of the rankings. It serves and re-serves the same programs.
We regularly get screwed by Rivals since we have no representation at Rivals. Programs that do... even lower tier FBS programs... get instant stars for every player they get to commit. If we can get them to even list our commitments in a timely manner, we still have guys that stay unranked on our list almost the entire recruiting season... until the last week when they final give them 2 stars for being an FBS recruit. That gives the perception our class isn't actually as good as it is.
Winning is the bottom line. Those who know... know we are getting this program cranked up. It does not surprise me that only those close to the program know it and actually believe it. The numbnuts are just doing what they do best... being numbnuts.
