LOUISIANA La. - Brit Framel says he's a football player that just happens to be a kicker.
That's what the numbers and honors say - a two-time athlete of the year at his Verdigris, Okla., high school, outfielder on a state championship baseball team, Most Valuable Player as a quarterback in an Oklahoma prep all-star game and his school's MVP in basketball as a senior.
But it's his punting and kicking abilities in junior college that most impressed the University of Louisiana, and Framel gave Ragin' Cajun head coach Rickey Bustle a verbal commitment to sign with the UL program this week.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has handled both punting and kickoff duties for the traditionally-strong Northeast Oklahoma Junior College program in Miami, Okla., for two years. He averaged 41.0 per punt as a sophomore with 15 kicks killed inside the 20-yard line.
"I played a little quarterback this past spring," he said, "but I figured that I had a better opportunity to continue to play through kicking."
Framel is the 12th commitment and second junior college commitment the Cajuns have received to the 2005 recruiting class. He and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-Compton (Calif.) Community College wide receiver Corey Frederick are expected to be mid-term signees and be with the Cajun squad for spring drills.
