You GEAUX RHINEAUX!!!!
This is a two-way street BUT is very much needed, especially for basketball. With new leadership I believe new changes can be made. We took it for granted having the floor bleachers around Blackham ... the students never got equal seating in the Cajundome, because of the green. So, if the new administration opens up more seating for students - you students need to show up!!! This is the time to do this, because this team is starting to take off and that means more people in the dome!
I just noticed I got a hat trick ... three posts in a row.
Now for the QUADfecta!
Crowd got into game and Coach commented on how it lifted the team. Best crowds of the year were last two games. Build it and they will come. And it's being built.
I love that we have real plays (and they are practiced) for getting the ball in on out of bounds plays or when under full court pressure. We have plays (sometimes even followed) when working the time down near 10 seconds. Actually trying to set screens. I like this coach and his assts.
My comments had little to do with the venue and location of their seats, and more to do with the lack of attention given to building up a legit student section.
Obviously, to have a student section, you need students. And the better the team, the more the students will attend. But that only goes so far. It has to be built upon. Even during the really good years the team had earlier in the decade, there were a lot of students there and it would get loud at times, but there was never anything to get it to the next level. I did talk to Coach Lee after his first season about trying to get something going, and he seemed interested, but we weren't able to come together and it never got off the ground.
I do think that it's funny that they do the kick and shoot for cash at FB and BB games, because they think it helps attract students to games. The Cameron Crazies, Orange Crush, Izzone, etc, didn't just happen and they weren't the result of shoot for cash contests. If more effort was put into adding a little organization to the student sections, turning them into "the places to be", it would attract way more students than a random chance of winning cash. See MUSS.
I will ask around to see what can be done to fix the problems and enhance the experience.
Do they not give away t-shirts to the students anymore? When I was in school there was always a game or two where the student section would get t-shirts to wear. Give the student section a name, give them shirts to wear and get them in the crowd! Bring back the Red Dots!!
There isn't a lot of marketing of the athletic program targeted towards students. You see some during the FB season but I see very little happening for other sports. It would help if we get the UPC and other student orgs. pushing the sporting events during the week. I've been surprised to find out how many students don't know that they get into sporting events for free because of the fees they pay at the start of the semester.
