true. given the circumstances that is a good crowd. This is just the 3rd game that I missed over the last 4 or 5 years. One was the Mobile game last year (sure glad I missed it), one was the Sam Houston St game last year where I think we lost at the last minute, and this one. I really really wish I coulda seen this game.
Where is the promotion of this? Where are the signs at the Dome? Why aren't the students wearing UPC shirts with The Rage Cage on them? Why have a vote/poll if nothing is going to be done about it?!
I was talking to my friends who I went with last night and we were all very disappointed in the student section! There is no reason that section shouldn't be rockin'! They need to push FREE!!!
My friends and I usually make it to every home game but there are just a handful of others who go. The atmosphere is usually dampened by people not wanting to stand up or old people with young kids sitting in the section. You're right too, where is my free Rage Cage shirt?

They used to have the student section roped off, with papers sitting in the seat (so we can read them during visitors intros). Somewhere that stopped. I was glad to see the 'Wall' is not there anymore, when you used to walk into the dome, the first thing you see is a giant plywood wall, uggg. They need SGA/UPC policing the student section to keep it for students only! And then the students need to get loud!!!! The thing I absolutely love that the team does is sing the fight song with the students after a home win. Hearing 'Geaux... U...L!' echoing in the cajundome always gives me chills. In a school of 17,000 students we CAN get more than a couple hundred out to a game. If they start winning and playing exciting basketball, the student will show up, but as Rhineaux mentioned, how are they going to foster that support and turn it into some more?
That's because those of us that did that for everyone got old and graduated. Sadly, we failed in passing down the tradition to other underclassmen at UL. I remember preparing the "cheat" sheets on the opposing team. Useless trivia of parents names, major, kids names, etc. It was great for heckling.
Oh man, I remember utilizing those cheat sheets!! I used to love heckling. I would just try to say wacky stuff, I got a grin out of some players and coaches every once in a while, but I tried not to be too mean spirited (tried). Last week at the game I almost forgot I was in the wrong section to yell things like "Hey Ref, get off your knees, your blowing the game!" If the students have good energy, the others will feed off of that. If the dome has good energy, the team will feed off of that. I hope we keep up all of the good strides we are making.
