LAWRENCE, Kansas — Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns knew their task was a formidable one Saturday night at No. 2 Kansas.

The degree of difficulty zoomed to near-impossible when senior point guard Orien Greene limped to the bench with 9 minutes left in the first half, missing the last 29 minutes of action.

By the time it was over, the Jayhawks had rolled to a 96-51 victory to improve to 6-0 on the young season and drop UL to 3-4.

“Kansas is an extremely good basketball team,” UL coach Robert Lee said. “They took us out of everything we wanted to do. We didn’t do a good enough job of closing out on their shooters, and then once they got a lead going we started to rush things and got away from our game plan.

“They basically dominated the basketball game. I thought we had good practices. We tried to execute our plan, which was to run our motion offense, take the shot clock down to 15 seconds and then run a set from there to try to limit their possessions.

“Shooting is a question mark with our team. We don’t have enough guys that can jump up and make shots.”

The Cajuns were in the 32 percent range for both halves, finishing 19-of-59 from the field including 4-of-19 from 3-point range. Their problems extended to the free throw line, where UL was just 9-of-19.

Brian Hamilton had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the visitors, while Tiras Wade added 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Greene was kneed in his lower right leg early in the game and was held out for the remainder of the contest although the injury is deemed minor.
