LOUISIANA La. — Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team held its annual end of the year awards banquet last week.

Junior forward and Baytown, Texas native Meredith Smith was named team most valuable player. Smith was one of only two Cajuns to start all 19 matches.

Sophomore midfielder Rose Clemensen received the Pineapple Award and was named the team’s offensive MVP. The Pineapple Award is given to the Cajuns player who the team thinks was not justly recognized for her efforts that season.

Clemensen, an NAIA Division I All-American in 2003, led the team in goals (six) and total points (15). She received honorable mention All-Louisiana honors, while being omitted from Sun Belt Conference honors.

Taunya Geelhoed was named the team’s defensive MVP and freshman of the year. The freshman defender, a native of Mission, British Columbia, scored one goal in her debut season.

Senior defender Sherryl Owens, arguably one of the toughest players in school history, received the Ruby Award. The Ruby Award is given to the Cajuns player who provides inspiration, while providing the team with the most heart.
