    Default Marvin White

This just in today from rivals.com. Marvin White (Port Barre) a 4 star DB is considering UL. White states that LSU, who intially signed him 2 years ago but become a academic casualty and went JC, is still his first choice. Since he just has two years of football left, LSU is concerned of the short time to learn the system and may not offer.

His HS coach Perron states that if LSU does not offer UL has a good shot at White. His mother also is pushing him to stay close to home.

I have never seen him play in person but have seen him play on TV in the LA/Tex All-Stat game and was very impressed. He was all over the field making plays. This guy would make a great FS. He should look at what CC Brown did here in 2 years after JC and see the possiblities.

Here is the article via rivals.com

    ------------------

Former Port Barre, La., star Marvin White is wrapping up his tenure at Kilgore Community College and is now turning his attention to the recruiting process. He is holding out in the hope that he can wear the purple and gold uniform in his home state.

White really wants a LSU offer
Port Barre head coach Donnie Perron says that LSU is keeping in touch with White but a scholarship offer seems like a long shot.

“They still keep in touch with him and send him stuff but they haven’t offered him yet. I don’t know if they will,” Perron said. “I tried to get a pulse on it a few weeks ago. I talked to Kirby Smart their DB coach that helps Coach Saban and he was pretty honest me. They think he can play. The problem is he only has two years, they have to teach him all of that where they can get him on the field to make it worth while and the have all their safeties returning.”

Perron was asked to compare White to former Port Barre stars Daniel Francis (LSU) and Chris Keys (LSU commitment).

“Daniel is the smallest of the three and he has the great speed. Keys is big and he is probably around 220 now and he might be bigger than that,” Perron said. “Marvin when he left here was around 185 and now he is 200. He is 6-2, 200, he’s lean, he is more of a safety. Chris could play outside linebacker for them.”

White phoned Perron on Monday, the two spoke about what is taking place in his recruitment, and right now, his main offers are from a bevy of universities in the state of Texas.

“Right now he has offers from A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Ole Miss is recruiting him hard but now with the coaching change I don’t know what is going to happen.

Most of the state colleges in Louisiana have offered as well including Louisiana-Lafayette (ULL).

“I told coach Gibson (ULL) that he wants to go to LSU and if he gets an offer that is where he is going. He wants to play in the SEC, however he does want to get closer to home and his mother want him closer to home,” Perron said. “So I told him that if LSU doesn’t offer that I didn’t think they were out of the picture.”

I just did a little extra research on rivals. According to the list, LSU has 2 commitments from 2 High School Safetys. They have offers out to 4 Safetys & 2 Corner backs. All High School.

LSU does not need to bring in Juco players. They have enough depth and can get the top notch high school players.

If White wants to stay around home, I thing we have a great chance of getting him.

If I were recruiting Marvin White I would sing this song, or a version of it.

    Thomas, Franklin, Tillman, Taylor, Brown
    Franklin, Tillman, Taylor, Brown, Thomas
    Tillman, Taylor, Brown, Thomas, Franklin

    White, White, White, White, White

Don't forget Wendell Williams who is getting a look in the NFL. He has been on 2 practice squads this year. He was only a part time starter his senior year. Also Kyries Hebert was a FS with the cajuns not long ago got a look with the vikings and is now in the CFL. If you are good enough the scouts will find you. But if you go to a larger school i.e. LSU, you may never get a chance to showcase you talent.

Two older ones: Todd Scott of the Vikings and Jets and Thomas King who played in NFL Europe and, I believe, was in several NFL camps.

I just got back from AppleBee's (20 years since I met my wife) they have a real nice 14x11 photo of Todd Scott on the wall.

Kyries played for a short time with the Texans. Surely Damon Mason got an NFL tryout at least. I do not know.

Well, rivals.com is reporting that White has committed to TCU. I guess our next big name safety is a current member of our team.

Who it is, we will have to wait to see who emerges from the fog.
