Thread: Next Year on Offense

Next year on offense we should have a new signal caller. Jerry B has had his chance and has made the most of his opportunity. Not to down-play Jerry, he is a great QB with great athleticism, but he has "legs with a cannon" behind him. Desormeaux, has great upside. I watched this guy throughout highschool, and know him personally. He's faster, stronger, and has great accuracy. Jerry and Desormeaux are equally talented but I believe with a couple starts under center his confidence and maturity will multiply 3-fold. Desormeaux is the future of this program. We signed this kid with the intentions of playing him at quarterback, even though they told him he'd get a chance to play Strong Safety. I would tell any recruit that just to get him to come to my university. I feel he can and will lead this offense both running and passing. Mark my words, if they give him the slightest opportunity to challenge Jerry next year at quarterback, he will prevail and we will be watching this New Iberia boy work wonders for 4 years. A little insight before I finish.........I personally watched Michael lead the "scout-team" or what you would call the practice squad up and down the field against our 1st string defense during practice when our defense was preparing to play against a mobile quarterback. Just thought everyone should know that our program is in good hands if the right personnel is put into place. Hope Jerry stays positive because he is a great athlete and should be able to play a couple of positions next year.

He didn't have a broken rib, he had a bad hip contusion, they took him out of that one game because he coudn't throw the ball anymore it was too painfull.

Jerry should be the started, however the head coach has to be smarted then playing him with a broken rib. Jerry is not going to take himself out of the game, he would lose the respect of his teammates. The coach should have sat him down and played Luke instead.

I would like to see some competition at QB, as well as two local boys competing for all the available publicity. I respect JB's competiveness, but his QB skills are limited. The fact that he is closing in on career records after two years doesn't say much for a 100+ year program. Injury or not, you have to question a 1 & 4 finish.

Jerry Babb is our quarterback. Now I hope Desormeaux is as good as some are saying. My hope is that we blow out some teams next year giving Desormeaux a chance to come in, get some game experience, & show his stuff!

I think if J. Babb develops his passing accuracy...He will not be unseated at the Quarterback position, However...if he does not, I think we should look at all other possibilities in regards to winning.

As far as J. Babb's athletic ability...It doesn't get any better than the long elusive run he had against Kansas St!

Babb, Jerry 11 112.62 385-223-13 ints 57.9comp0 2345yds 12td's. 59 213.2 (4-7) easiest sched in the nation , you guys are really kind to the kid for some reason... I say we need to make some changes and if u dont think so look at the record.. Im a big UL fan and I like jerry but we got to do something and start winning.

Why is everybody hating Babb? This guy was all we had this year. As a sophomore he was 38th in the nation in passing yardage above QB's like Aaron Rodgers from Cal, I think we all agree he's pretty good. Babb is also 48th in the nation in Completion percentage above many good QB's. And he had 500 yards rushing averaging 4.9 yards per carry. We are lucky to have Babb behind center and I'm 100% behind him for 2 more years. I think by his senior year the talent at UL will catch up with his ability and he could possibly be an elite QB. Don't get me wrong I'm very excited about watching Desormeaux push Babb. Competition is healthy and I'm sure Bustle and Babb welcomes it.

I AGREE THOSE STATS AREN'T TOO IMPRESSIVE. HE'S GOOD, BUT GOOD WILL NOT WIN CONFERENCE. WE NEED AN EXCELLENT PLAYER AT ONE OF OUR 2 MOST IMPORTANT POSITIONS (QB AND/OR RB)....IF YOU GIVE DESORMEAUX A CHANCE YOU'LL FIND OUT HOW GOOD HE IS AND EVERYONE WILL LOVE THAT TASTE OF WINNING. ALSO, IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE BABB IN AS OUR STARTER, THAT'S FINE WITH ME BUT WE MUST GO AND GET A SLASHING/POWER RUNNER. WE NEED SOMEONE BIGGER THAN THE GUYS THAT WE'RE TYPICALLY LANDING. OUR BACKS ARE 5'9"-175LBS AND NO ONES NAME IS WARRICK DUNN. I AM TIRED OF STABLE FULL OF ONE DIMENSIONAL MILD TALENTED RUNNING BACKS. WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE LANDED R.MOATS.........DOES LA TECH HAVE MORE RECRUITING PULL THAN THE CAJUNS DO, IF SO MAN WE HAVE A TOUGH HILL TO CLINB (MT.EVEREST)!!! I DO ALOT OF RESEARCH ON TALENT AROUND D-II FOOTBALL AS WELL AS HIGH SCHOOL TALENT THATS COMING OUT. THERE'S PLENTY OF TALENT THAT'S UNFOUND OUT THERE. I WAS JUST READING OF A KID WHO IS A WIDE RECEIVER AT A DII SCHOOL, HE'S 6'3" - 200LBS AND RUNS A 4.3!! HE BROKE ALMOST EVERY DII RECORD AS A FRESHMAN, WHY AREN'T WE SEARCHING FOR SUCH UNKNOWN TALENT. WE CAN'T SEEM TO LAND ANY STAR (3-5 STAR) ATHLETES. OUR PROGRAM ISN'T THAT BAD, WE JUST NEED TO ADD A COUPLE OF QUALITY PLAYERS @ KEY POSITIONS AND "WAH-LAH" WE HAVE A WINNING SEASON. I KNOW IT'S NOT THAT EASY BUT IT HAS TO START IMPROVING. IF WE CAN EVENTUALLY BEGIN TO WIN AND MAKE IT TOO THE BOWL GAME, WE WILL MAKE MORE MONEY AS A PROGRAM AND THAT WILL KICK BACK INTO POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTS. WITH EXTRA MONEY, WE CAN HIRE MORE COACHES TO FOCUS ON DIFFERENT INDIVIDUAL ASPECTS OF THE GAME, INSTEAD OF HAVING ONE OFFENSIVE AND ONE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.....(I KNOW WE HAVE MORE THAN THAT, BUT WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH AND I CAN'T STRESS THAT ANY MORE)!!! I LOVE THE CAJUNS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A DIE-HARD FAN, BUT WE NEED TO IMPROVE OUR RECRUITING FIRST AND FOREMOST. THEN THINGS WILL BEGIN TO FALL INTO PLACE......JUST TAKE A LOOK AT BASEBALL, SOFTBALL, & BASKETBALL. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN SNIFF OUT THAT UNFOUND TALENT. IF WE DON'T HAVE SOMEONE, I CAN SURE AS HELL DO IT FOR FREE BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE US SUCCEED....CAN I FILL OUT AN APPLICATION BECAUSE I'M IN!!!!! RAGIN CAJUN ALUM

Babb has decent stats but that based on short throws-lacks arm strength and accuracy downfield and that hurt us this year. Could easily have been 9and 2 with a Jake Delhomme type QB with touch on long passes down the sidelines and quicker release, strong arm and accuracy on the move and good pocket presence.Saw desormeaux play several games and has stronger arm than Babb but neever saw deep passes only slants and never saw any speed like Vick, please, with that type speed he would't be wearing a cajun jersey. There is a QB in the area who has all the above attributes-threw for over 1800yds this year and ran for close to 900 yds. in spite of 4or 5 dropped passes every game and who brought his team back from 3touchdowns back numerous times playing with a group of public school kids who played their heart out not allstars like some other local teams. In the first round playoff game against a New orleans area team that was huge and had a record of 8 and 2, he threw for 256 yds and three touchdowns and ran for 156 yds and three touchdowns for a win! In the second playoff game he completed one fourthdown pass with three defender hanging onto his left side by finding a tightend 20yds downfeild. He also ran for a touchdown on a fourth an five from the 15ydline. This kid is for real and has no down side, he makes good grades and is very humble. He is for real! Very special! But unfortunately it looks like he will be the future on McNeese State because of politics, that's going to be a great loss for the cajuns! I saw him play against Desormeaux for two years and there was no comparison. Nuff said, lets hear from the peanut gallery now but please don't judge this kid unless you have seen him play or talked to coaches who played against him this year. And speaking of heart he played every down in the playoff game against Teurlings-offense and defense guarding their tall No. 1 receiver every down! He should be the future of the cajuns-another Jake Delhomme! Thank you! This kids name is Derrick Fourroux and led the Erath high Bobcats since he was a sophomore.

Scoto, I think you would be a better recruter for UL then what they got right now. About Babb I HAVE NOTHING AGAINTS HIM,its like people take it as an insult if you have something REAL yeah you heard me, REAL to say about football.... I dont care if he was brett favre, if he is a hometown hero or whatever the case might be if you throw more INTS then TD's and go 4-8 last year and then go 4-7 with a weak i mean weak sced in the nation something has got to be done. Our RB arent very good and thats a fact. Once again I dont want to upset anyone IM a big UL fan also but its the turth> How can UNT same conference as us a school under UT ,A&M, TEXAS TECH, TCU, UTEP, get a good RB and also good talent?????? Its weird. I wish UL would get up and go look for some real talent and a good place to start is , Texas, California, Florida, Oklahoma , Nebraska just find the talent it doesnt even matter
